Firefly 1x03: Our Mrs. Reynolds
10:07 AM | Watching, typing, thinking:
1. Little House on the Prairie? A lot of western this time around. Interesting.
2. My little floral bonnet. Hee.
3. That's one dumb, no-spine Mrs. Reynolds/Saffron. Sure she cook good but does she have a brain?
4. Dang, the Chinese are intriguing. And they'll only use it when they're pissed or flabbergasted. I'm Lost in Translation!!!
5. This is the first time that I heard the term 'Firefly' itself. A type of ship, a coveted one it seems. It's coming together now.
6. Ok, I officially hate Saffron. Kiss 'em and sink 'em. Where's the sex in that? And she reminded me of Renee Zellweger in that breathless-breathed voice kind of way.
7. Ooh, she's an evil one. Saffron, I mean. Gosh, I like this mind-fuck.
8. The ship-colliding climax is er, anti-climatic. Bleah.
9. Saffron gonna have a shiner soon. Yeah baby. And yet she didn't at the end. Wha-hey?
10. Leave that Inara woman. She's a lost cause!!!
Not a bad episode, not that good either. I'm...ambivalent. You gotta do more than this to make me a fan. | Talk, damnit (0)

Justice League 1x26 / Episode 26: Savage Time, Part 3/3
2:58 AM | Whee, my first Justice League review. Watching it as I'm writing this:
1. From their last week's appearance, Easy Company? Ah, the most famous one to be used, I suppose. And the men are so hunky. In a war? Ok, cartoon = stretch that truth.
2. Pink-striped battle tanks? Yeah. To match with their compacts, of course.
3. I miss Batman. He's so moody, so dark, less colour I tell you! :o)
4. Wonder Woman going for that kiss? Go girl.
5. Flash is so fast, he walks on water. Been there, done that.
6. Point to self: Boy am I snarky? :o)
7. I would have thought that seeing a black man--furthermore a superhero--in the middle of anywhere during the WWII would bring up issues. Green Lantern seems to get by pretty easily other than remarks on his lack of powerness. Ok, refer to point 1.
8. I'm getting that all-for-one-one-for-all vibe now from watching the plane fight.
9. Aww. Batman's back! And guess who ran to him? Superman, aww. Feeling the man-love here.
10. You know, I wish Steve would be much happier on seeing Wonder Woman there.
Not bad for a series ender. I like it as I like the idea of Justice League. It deals with much more adult issues than the ol' Superfriends series, though the latter had more superheroes than JL. But. JL is still good. I'm happy. I'm entertained. More! | Talk, damnit (0)

Spiderman
6:44 AM | Another one of my all-time favs.
The thing about the movies that I like is that they are mostly non-literary, just grazing the skim of deep thoughts and are really unrealistic. Then again, why would watch something that is similar or a carbon copy of my life? Movies to me are an escape, a fantasy, a science fiction, something that I could identify with but on the other hand relate not to.
This movie is fun. I've never thought that it's too long. Tobey Maguire is great as the teenage Spiderman. His hesitant smiles, his lovestruck gazes, he is perfect. Every character stands on his own here. I'm very impressed with Jonah Jameson. He is such a likable ass. And the special effects, though needed, seems cautiously restrained. Not bad for a movie that relies on one.
The soundtrack went big when it opened nearly two years ago. It's the typical teenage boy band music thingy. But hey, it works. It didn't distract much from the story itself.
So, to keep me from going on and on fangirlishly about the movie, I say this is a fun one to watch. I have yet got tired of it and I can't wait for its sequel this July. Looking from its teaser trailer, it will another exhausting ride. I can't wait. | Talk, damnit (0)

Spy Game
9:12 AM | The original website for it does not seem to work, so the alternative will have to do for now.
This is one of my favourite movies. It's one of those movies that I can never get tired of watching. Not only for the pretties but also on how well the pretties work together.
You can tell how Brad Pitt will look like in his golden years by looking at Robert Redford. They're like long-lost twins separated by years. This film really thrives on the relationship of both men. Mentor-protege, teacher-student, friend-confidant, father-son. One sees every facet of them in their interaction, all in flashbacks and the sacrifices that each is willing--or unwilling--to make.
I love it. The later Cold War period is aptly sprinkled with shaggy hair, Ray-Bans and woolly coats. Muir's cunning maneuvers to ouwit his fellow CIAns are outwright sneaky and impressive. And Brad Pitt's potrayal of a love-strickened man is somewhat believable imho, even though I don't care much for the girl. Blah woman. Something's not right in her somewhere.
I realise Brad Pitt is good in his understated ways. He has his nuances, his pretty-boyness and he knows it. He uses it in fact. Hmm. Robert Redford, that name is ringing.
Damn well-worth-my-time movie. Spy coolness included, of course ;o)
Update 18-02-2004: Oh, and the soundtrack's fabulous! Snazzy is the word that comes to mind and I love how everything works together seamlessly with the story. Great stuff. | Talk, damnit (0)

Hart's War
7:35 AM | For a war drama, it's okay.
The main purpose for the trial was only found out about 3/4 through the movie. There is a lot of staring, a lot of looking and a lot of half-eye-lidding. I think most of the actors slept through the movie here. That said, Colin Farrell is darn good. I guess all that partying really affects one's overall view of him but put him in front of a camera and he's fine. He's remarkable great at times.
I like the blue-tinged feel of the film, and the starkness of the stalag. If one doesn't get the message of the film, don't worry, the ending soliloquy will be helpful. Not a great movie, not that bad of a movie either. | Talk, damnit (0)
